How does it work? |
It is client-server technology using the web. You install the server on a machine running IIS. Next run a small program SIAudit.exe on each PC to collect inventory. There is no software to install on every PC! Merely schedule SIAudit on each PC using login scripts (both NT/2000/2003 and Novell® supported). Alternatively, end users may run SIAudit by simply going to a url siscan.htm on your intranet web server. Integrated Auditor™ is Client-Server technology that scans PCs for installed software (both Windows Installer or MSI and non-MSI installations are reported) and optionally MP3, EXE, OCX, DLL and BIN files, and uses Web (TCP/IP) protocols to instantaneously transmit application details such as version, vendor information to the server (in case of MP3 files, artist and song title are reported). The process is non-intruisive to end users and non-repetitive. For instance the process is typically scheduled via login scripts, however it is not repeated each morning when end users login to their network thereby eliminating repeated audits day after day after one successful audit! Of course, administrators have the ability to schedule re-audits on demand. To limit the data collected, the process skips Windows folders as these folders typically contain only operating system files. Audit can also be performed simply by pointing to url siscan.htm over the intranet. |
